The St Martinho Fair, Golegã 2010

The big event of the Fair is always the show of the three years old stallions. Then are gathered all the people really interested in the breed around the Largo Marquês do Pombal in order to witness, who is going to win the most coveted title, a part from the Champion of Champions, of course.

This year, there were 24 stallions participating and it didn´look bad at all. After a thorough inspection by the judges, 18 of them had to leave the ring and the six finalists were left for a second inspection by the three judges and their assistants.

As always, it is very exciting to look at, even if this year the odds really were pointing towards the son of Spartacus,  CAMPEADOR, a magnificent young horse with very good movements, morphology and size and being a golden shiny dun, a real eye-catcher from Sta Margarida. He won the three years old and also, to the great happiness of Piedade and Luis Pidwell, the title of Champion of Champions, as his father many times before him. Congratulations Sta Margarida! Of course, he got a gold medal!

Second was CARTIER, by Juncal-Parra-Idolo, from Inácio Ramose, a very beautiful and typical grey, with a powerful and proud expression and very well built. He was really something to look at! Gold medal for him too!

Third was one of the favourits of the audience, the very pretty CARRIçO, by Hostil-Romä-Impossivel, from Sousa Cardoso. This palomino has a lovely structure, fantastic movements, size, and most people liked his head, even if it is not "modern". He got a silvermedal and was immediately sold to Bresil and the family was very happy to see the name and tradition continue in such a successful way, althoug the founder, the very estimated and respected Francisco Sousa Cardoso, left them in 2007.

Fourth was CINQUENTA E QUATRO, by Quo-Vadis-Praxe-Xaquiro, from Monte Vehlo, fifth CARBONO, by Madrigal-Xhila-Fadista, from Quinta das Várzeas and sixth CICLONE DA BRÔA, by Varão da Brôa-Rumba-Impossivel, from Manuel Tavares Veiga. He was very beautiful and typical with spectaculare gates and will most possibly be a wonderful horse to ride.

In the four years won BARRILOCHE, by Rouxinol-Orgulhosa-Hostil, from João Pedro Rodrigues  and showed by the now famous Gonçalo Carvalho Conchinhas, known  from the international dressage competitions as the rider and trainer of the magnificient RUBI, the highest graded Lusitano in the World. He belongs since some time to Mrs Christine Jacoberger, but she lets Gonçalo ride, train and compete with him. The goal is the Olympic Games in London 1212.

Back to BARRILOCHE, who is a very pleasant horse with good gates, very good ridability and size. He already won several gold medals and this time he ended up as the Vice Champion of the Fair.
